Student had weapon on Bellaire HS campus, school says

A message about the incident went out to parents on Friday. School officials said they'll increase police monitoring on campus.

HOUSTON — A student had a weapon on campus at Bellaire High School Friday morning, according to a message sent to parents.

At this point, it’s unknown what type of weapon was found on the student. The district said no one was injured.

When we reached out to Bellaire High School for comment, they sent us the text of a message that went out to parents. It reads, in part:

“This is an important message for Bellaire High School parents from Principal Niggli. I need to make you aware of an incident that occurred this morning on our campus. We discovered that a student had a weapon on campus. Houston ISD police responded, the weapon was confiscated, and no one was injured. Please know that we take these situations very seriously, as the safety of our students and staff is always our absolute top priority. We will increase our police monitoring on campus going forward and will continue and strengthen our preventative safety measures.”

This is the second time in a week a weapon has been found on the Bellaire campus. According to the district, a message went out on Tuesday about a weapon on campus. District officials didn't specify what type of weapon it was in that case either. They said that no one was hurt and that the person with the weapon was detained and removed from campus.
