SAN ANTONIO — The Bexar County Angel Moms are the voices for their children taken by a drug that has taken the lives of thousands every year.
Veronica Kaprosy is the mother of 17-year-old Danica Summer. She knows that it only takes one pill to take a healthy, young life.
“My daughter was murdered,” she said. “She wasn’t ready to die, she was 17.”
Danica Summer was prepared to graduate high school and become an engineer. She’s one of many lives that were lost due to fentanyl poisoning.
“I’m speaking for the mom who hasn’t lost her child, because I don’t want her to lose her child,” Kaprosy said.
Kathy Drago’s son, Cody Anthony Drago, is among those taken too soon.
“He had a moment of weakness and bought a pill off the street, and it was pure fentanyl," Drago said. "Fentanyl murdered my 28-year-old son and I have to live with that every single day of my life.”
The Bexar County Angel Moms aim to build awareness inside schools and throughout the county.
“We want to get with the superintendents of every single school district," Drago said. "We want to get in every area high school, middle school, and have these conversations.”
Education on Narcan is a must. Abigail Garza Moore is the CEO of the San Antonio Council on Alcohol & Drug Awareness.
“Fentanyl, the amount... a grain of salt, which is very very tiny, that’s all it takes to kill an individual,” she said.
Being the voice for the voiceless, these mothers have come together to spread their mission.
“We are tireless moms, and we will not stop until everyone has heard this," Drago said.
