BEXAR COUNTY, Texas — Bexar County deputies were in the right place at the right time to bust two suspects driving a stolen car near a BCSO promotion ceremony, authorities said.
BCSO says Gang Unit deputies who were at Friday night's ceremony spotted a stolen Black Kia Forte they had been tracking off Zarzamora and Calaveras.
The driver and a passenger tried to get away and hide in an apartment complex nearby, but Sheriff Javier Salazar said the suspects were unaware of the presence of the covert deputies. BCSO says they later left the apartment and were taken into custody by the waiting deputies.
Authorities say the driver was identified as 18-year-old Leah Campos and the passenger was identified as 25-year-old Destiny Ferdin.
Deputies say Campos is a documented gang member and now she is facing charges related to drug possession and stealing a vehicle. Ferdin is facing a misdemeanor theft charge.
