Bexar County Fire Marshal's handling fire as a crime scene

The house fire in eastern Bexar County destroyed two homes, and sent one man to the hospital with severe burns on his face, feet and hands.
A woman who lives near the fire said her husband and another neighbor helped rescue a man in the fire who she said was badly burned.

Converse and Gardendale Fire responded to a house fire on Candlehill just outside of Kirby. The fire in eastern Bexar County destroyed two homes and sent one man to the hospital with severe burns on his face, feet and hands.

Eyewitness News spoke to two men who said they had to tear down a fence to help get the man to safety.

"This guy and myself we said it we've got to get him out of there but he flew through the window," said neighbor Rufus Kemp. "Flew through the window and flew right at our feet."

Myron Doern was driving by when he jumped into action to help.

"He was pretty bad. I mean he was burnt bad and I wouldn't touch him," said Doern. "I was like come on let's go let's go and I kind of helped him get into the front yard."

The victim told Bexar County Fire Marshal's that the fire was caused by an explosion after he lit two gas cans on fire. Neighbors told deputies that they had other suspicions.

"Some neighbors suspect that he was possibly cooking meth, but again we are investigating," a Bexar County spokesperson said. "We won't know for sure until investigators get into the scene to see exactly what's in there."
