Bexar County jail locked down after potential attempted jailbreak

Deputies with the sheriff's office found a ceiling tile that "appeared to be disturbed," which prompted a lockdown at the Bexar County jail.

SAN ANTONIO — The Bexar County jail was placed on lockdown after deputies with the sheriff's office found evidence of a potential attempted breakout.

According to a BCSO spokesperson, a ceiling tile that "appeared to be disturbed" was found Monday afternoon around 1:30 pm in the booking area of the Adult Detention Center.

Following the discovery, authorities placed the main jail area, as well as the jail annex, on lockdown to conduct a "full facility population count."

The BCSO spokesperson confirmed that all of the inmates at the jail had been accounted for during the count, at which point authorities lifted the lockdown. Jail operations returned to normal by Monday afternoon.
