Bexar County Sheriff’s deputy arrested, faces charge for domestic violence

Off-duty detention corporal, 31-year-old Mark Anthony Plata, was arrested and faces a charge of assault bodily injury–family/household, according to BCSO.

SAN ANTONIO — A Bexar County Sheriff’s detention corporal was arrested for domestic violence and placed on unpaid administrative leave Monday morning, according to BCSO.

In a statement from the Sheriff’s Office, 31-year-old Mark Anthony Plata, was arrested while off-duty at the 12300 block of Claiborne on the city’s far southwest-side.

He now faces a charge of assault bodily injury–family/household and his bond is set at $2,500.

BCSO said Plata has been employed at the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office Detention Bureau since June 2020.

Following his arrest, Plata was issued a notice of proposed dismissal and placed on unpaid administrative leave in accordance with BCSO policies and procedures with Bexar County Civil Service Rules.

"Domestic violence in any setting should never be tolerated, but especially in law-enforcement,” said Sheriff Javier Salazar. “This young man accepted this job knowing we have a high standard, so the consequences of his actions should not come as a surprise to him."

BCSO said it has opened an internal investigation into the case.
