SAN ANTONIO — Two separate food industry operations in the San Antonio area are laying off a combined 195 workers, according to the Texas Workforce Commission.
Officials from the TWC were informed that 138 workers from Bimbo Bakeries USA are set to be laid off by early October.
According to TWC, Quality Custom Distribution said it will be laying off 57 workers from its Schertz warehouse by late September.
The notices were filed by Bimbo Bakeries on July 26 and Quality Custom Distribution on July 25.
Bimbo Bakeries USA is the largest commercial baking company in the United States. They are part of Grupo Bimbo, the world's largest baking company with operations in 35 countries, according to their website.
Quality Custom Distribution was established in 2006 and delivers specialized distribution services to thousands of restaurants. Their headquarters are in Frisco, Texas, according to the QCD website.
