What's that black smoke? Power outage at southeast Houston chemical plant leads to flaring

TPC Group said crews were onsite to mitigate any safety issues.

HOUSTON — A power outage at a chemical plant in southeast Houston prompted intermittent flaring Saturday morning, according to a notice on CAER Online.

This happened at a TPC Group plant located at 8600 Park Place Boulevard around 11 a.m.

TPC Group said crews were onsite to mitigate any safety issues. The company said it didn't expect any impacts to employees or the surrounding area.

Plumes of black smoke could be seen from nearby highways even after the power was restored.
