NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas — Christmas came early for some New Braunfels families Saturday as special deliveries were made by Blue Santas.
Local officers headed out on a different kind of patrol aimed at spreading holiday cheer. New Braunfels Police and volunteers from the Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association delivered gifts around town, giving out toys and clothes.
The initiative was a chance not just to give to families who need a little extra help this season, but also for them to interact with police in a new light.
“For the police officers to go into the community and show a more positive side of what they do,” said Michael Garcia, co-chair of the Blue Santa program.
Organizers said families receiving gifts were selected through a rigorous screening process. This year, they helped out about 100 families.
