Volunteers can come out and clean local waterways this weekend

Registration starts at 8:30 a.m. and cleaning starts at 9 a.m. Saturday. They're hoping for a big turnout.

SAN ANTONIO — River Aid San Antonio is asking for residents to help clean our local waterways as recent heavy rains have flushed tons of litter out of storm sewers, but tomorrow there's a way for everyone to help clean up the mess.

Organizers of the 29th annual Basura Bash like to say "Clean it like you mean it!"

Basura is the Spanish word for trash and the event is a once a year effort to clean not only the San Antonio River, but also most of the tributaries that flow through our city.

"On February 17 we're going to be having 21 sites across San Antonio. You can go to our website and find all those sites on a nice map so you can see what is closest to you. I guarantee you can come out and help us. In your very own neighborhood you can take care of the waterway closest to you," Charles Blank River Aid San Antonio.

Registration starts at 8:30 a.m. and cleaning starts at 9 a.m. Saturday. They're hoping for a big turnout.
