Bull rider dies after falling from bull at Bandera rodeo series

BANDERA COUNTY, Texas — A bull rider from San Antonio died after falling from a bull at a rodeo arena in Bandera, Texas.

Peter DeLuna, 22, fell from the bull Friday night around 10:30 p.m. at Mansfield Park Rodeo Arena in Bandera. Officials say he suffered further injuries when the bull stepped on him.

Judge Mike Towers of Bandera County Precinct 1 has asked for an autopsy to be performed Monday.

The event was part of the "Riding on Faith" rodeo series. The organization posted a statement on its Facebook page expressing sorrow and offering condolences.

The statement said, in part, "It is with a heavy heart that we announce that the Bullrider Peter succumbed to his injury last night. We are deeply saddened at this time and ask that your thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends."

According to the Facebook page, another contestant suffered a concussion and fractured collarbone at the same event.
