Burleson Blooms gives young adults with disabilities opportunities to create floral arrangements for Valentine's Day

Benavidez said the support means a lot to the students. They're hoping they can surpass last year's goal of selling 115 arrangements.

SAN ANTONIO — The attention to detail is critical inside Burleson Blooms. The floral arrangements are made by students who are given their own chance to bloom. They are also still taking orders for Valentine's Day.

Sylvia Benavidez is the 18+ Transitional Coordinator with Burleson School for Innovation and Education in Edgewood ISD.

"Our students are in training, learning how to make various arrangements," she said. "These students are students with disabilities, young adults ranging 18-to-22-years-old. Unfortunately, a lot of the times people think these students are limited, due to their disabilities when they are not. They just need to be challenged, guided given the opportunity to show everyone what they can do."

All the students at the Burleson Center are given a chance to learn about making the arrangements. Every year, for Valentine's Day and Mother's Day they sell their creations.

"They are the ones that did all the leg work, as far as checking what they wanted to sell and what they wanted to look like," Benavidez said.

Benavidez said the support means a lot to the students. They're hoping they can surpass last year's goal of selling 115 arrangements. But, they still need the support.

"You are able to give our students the opportunity to grow their skill, and that's why we are here," she said. "Just like every other child, they want to aspire. They want to do well and that is what Burleson is all about."

The prices are very reasonable. The are taking orders until about noon on Valentine's Day. If you would like to place an order, click here
