Nearly a dozen cars burglarized Monday morning south of downtown

Multiple residents who live at the Village at Roosevelt Apartments say they have several experiences with car break-ins and theft.

SAN ANTONIO — Nearly a dozen residents are picking up the pieces after a series of car break-ins Monday morning.

Rosario Avila is 70 years old and says she does not feel safe living at the Village at Roosevelt Apartments on the south side. She even went so far as to buy a steering wheel lock for her car.

“I now use the bar, but they still manage to get in and went through the compartment console,” Avila said. “Everything was thrown out!”

Village at Roosevelt Apartments residents were eagerly waiting for our crew to arrive to describe multiple experiences they’ve had with car break-ins, theft and other matters. They told KENS 5 that they’ve  asked for better security and even a gate at the entrance of the complex.

A car belonging to Vida Cavazos was broken into, but nothing valuable was stolen.

“It’s a brand-new car and I mean it sucks, not only for me but the people that can’t on the spot, go fix their car, their windows,” Cavazos said. “And now they’re just left with broken windows?”

A car belonging to her mother, Celeste Cavazos, was also burglarized.

“It’s not just a petty issue, it’s not something that’s just happening every now and then, it’s happening all the time,” Celeste said.

According to a preliminary report, police say there were no witnesses the car burglaries - at this time the suspects are unknown.

KENS 5 reached out to the complex for comment but we have not heard back. Monday evening, a resident said the corporate office and manager on-site contacted them.
