SAN ANTONIO — A chase of a possibly impaired driver on the west side of town has ended, with no injuries reported, police say.
The chase started around 10 a.m. on Highway 90 and ended at Acme Road. Officials say that 10 to 20 people called 9-1-1 to report the driver who was apparently running folks off the road and driving unsafely. He also reportedly crashed into a barrier at one point.
Chase of possibly impaired driver by SAPD ends
SAPD EAGLE helicopter followed the driver and police blocked off the traffic so they could perform a pit maeuver and stop him before he caused an accident.
They waited for him to be in a safe area, then performed the pit maneuver, which caused him to lose control and hit a wall when his tires deflated. His speeds were reportedly under 50 miles per hour the whole time.
The driver was taken into custody.
No injuries were reported.
"Officers did a great job and we're fortunate that no one else got hurt," said SAPD. We wanted to get him off the road and had the opportunity."
This is a developing story.
