Local neighborhood rattled after child injured in drive-by shooting on city's west side

Officials say the child was treated and released by EMS at the home.

SAN ANTONIO — A child was injured in what police are saying was a drive-by shooting on the west side of town late Saturday night.

San Antonio Police responded to the 1200 block of Lombrano Street near Zarzamora Street around 10:21 p.m. for reports of a shooting.

When officers arrived, they found a 9-year-old child had been grazed by a bullet while they were in the living room of the home. Police found several shell casings on the street outside.

The child was treated by EMS at the scene and released with non life-threatening injuries.

One woman who chose to remain anonymous told KENS 5 she was coming home from her sister's house with her young boy when she heard the gunshots.

“I hurried up and parked and took my son inside because I was scared because he is my only child," the woman said.

She said she had just moved into the apartments after experiencing homelessness.

“I’m trying to protect my baby not being outside at night because that’s not the only time I’ve heard gunshots, I’ve been hearing gunshots since I moved in and I barely moved in," she said.

She said she has no choice but to stay at the apartment complex but is hoping police are able to find the suspects.

“I fear that they could come on my street and just start shooting," she said.

There were no other injuries to any other family members.

Police are investigating. No other information was available.

This is a developing story.
