LYTLE, Texas — UPDATE 3/12
The boil water notice for the City of Lytle has been lifted and the water is safe for consumption again.
-------------------------------
The City of Lytle has issued a boil water notice effective at noon on Sunday for their residents. This boil water notice is in effect until noon on March 12, to allow the tanks time to refill.
Out of precaution, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has required the City of Lytle public water system to notify folks to boil their water prior to using or drinking (e.g., washing hands/face, brushing teeth, drinking, etc).
Kids, seniors, and people with weakened immune systems are particularly vulnerable to harmful bacteria, and all customers should follow these directions.
Boiling the water ensures the destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes. Water for drinking, cooking, and ice making should be boiled and cooled beofre you use for drinking water or human consumption purposes.
The water should be brought to a vigorous rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes. Instead of boiling water, you could also purchase bottled water or obtain water from some other suitable source for drinking water or human consumption purposes.
The public water system officials will notify customers that the water is safe for drinking water or human consumption purposes.
We will update this story as necessary.
