PORT LAVACA, Texas — The Coast Guard and other agencies suspended a search Sunday for a father and his teenage son who didn't return from a shrimping trip near Port Lavaca Saturday morning.

A 50-year-old man and his 15-year-old son left to shrimp off Magnolia Beach around 5 a.m. Saturday and were expected to return around 10:30 a.m.

EDITOR'S NOTE: The Coast Guard previously reported the missing man is 35 years old. He is 50 years old.

The Coast Guard was notified around 11:20 a.m. by the man's wife that the father and son never came back from their trip.

According to the Coast Guard, the man and teen were in a 40-foot shrimping vessel called "My Possum." They said a Calhoun County fire boat crew arrived on the scene and reported a capsized vessel matching the "My Possum" description in the Matagorda Ship Channel off Magnolia Beach.

The 50-year-old father is described as being Latino, about six feet tall and between 160 and 180 pounds. The Coast Guard said both the man and his son are likely wearing green waders.

A description of the teen was not provided.

Watchstanders issued an urgent marine information broadcast and directed the launch of an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Corpus Christi, plus a 29-foot Response Boat-Small from Coast Guard Station Port O’Connor.
