LONE TREE, Colo. — Even Captain America needs some help sometimes.
The man known as the Colorado Captain, who promotes children's causes and raises money to fight pediatric cancer, was on his way to the annual holiday parade at Children's Hospital Colorado on Wednesday when his motorbike broke down on the side of C-470.
What happened next is a heartwarming story for the holiday season.
Douglas County Sheriff's Office Deputy Zachary Zepeski responded along the shoulder of C-470 near Interstate 25, and footage from his body camera showed the interaction between him and the Captain.
"I can't in good conscience leave a nice motorcycle, and given that you're going to a children's hospital and doing all that, I got a tow truck coming. I'm going to move your bike from here," Zepeski said.
"I'm going to pay for it," he said.
The Captain's immediate response: "No, no, no, no, no, no, no."
But the deputy wasn't having any of it.
"It's Christmastime. That's OK, don't worry about that," he said.
"I don't want you to pull rank," Cap said. "I'm a captain."
The Captain thanked him, and Zepeski said, "If your bike got stolen, I would never forgive myself."
With the deputy's help, Cap was free to leave with his colleague who was driving his trailer and continue on to his appearance at the children's hospital.
Earlier this year, the Colorado Captain visited nine memorials in 10 states as part of his Tour of Honor for Veterans Day. You can find out more about the Colorado Captain on his Instagram page.
