East-side community church that has given so much to the community, is now in need of a helping hand

In July of this year, there was a fire at the church, and as they started rebuilding they became a victim of vandalism.

SAN ANTONIO — Christ Redeeming Community Church is always lending a helping hand in the community.  The congregation host food drives, hands out clothing, and gift cards.

The church now needs a helping hand to help them to continue doing God's work.

"We want to be the arms, the legs of Christ to reach out to people, and right now we need their help," says Pastor David Funches.

In July of this year, tragedy struck Christ Redeeming Community Church after a fire destroyed part of the church, leaving the rest heavily damaged with smoke.

They started rebuilding, but recently had another setback, vandalism.

"They took all the guts out of four air conditioning units, commercial air conditioning units," said Pastor Funches.

Christ Redeeming Community Church is a staple on the East-side. The church does a lot of for the community, giving back with monthly food drives, helping feed hundreds of families.

The church also give out gift cards and clothing. They also normally give out Thanksgiving meals with all the trimmings, but this year they can't.

"We normally prepare for Thanksgiving and Christmas, but we have no power.  We really don't have a facility, so all that's been delayed," said Pastor Funches.

The church hopes they can help families during Christmas.

"We're going to hopefully have power by then. We will go ahead and be able to give the turkey's out and we're going to go ahead and get the sides, but again we need help." said Pastor Funches.

The church has plans to build back stronger and strengthen their work in the community by adding a STEM after school program, which will include music.

"Where we can give them the talent and skills that they need to be better more enriched citizens," said Pastor Funches

Pastor Funches says there is still a lot of work to be done to get the church back on their mission, delivering God's work to the community, so to help they have started a GoFundMe.

"So the community's help would be much, much appreciated," said Pastor Funches.
