'We're tired of it' | General manager of computer store shares surveillance video of robbery suspect running off with MacBook

Crime Stoppers could pay up to $5,000 for information leading to an arrest of the suspect who was caught on camera being pursued by two store employees.

SAN ANTONIO — The general manager of a robbed computer store on San Antonio’s northwest side is hopeful someone will help police catch the suspect seen on surveillance video.

“I’ve worked hard to get to where we’re at and to have people like this come in and try to steal it from me because they don’t want to get an honest, it just rubs us all wrong way here in society,” said David Allen, vice president and general manager of AllGen Computers, which has been in business for 31 years.

At 9:15 a.m. on Sept. 30, security cameras captured a man walking into the store in the 5000 block of Babcock Road wearing a cap and black shirt. The man had a brief interaction with an employee about laptops on display. Within a minute, the man took off with a MacBook valued at $1,800.

“He had his agenda in mind already. He caught us off guard it was early in the morning,” Allen said. “When they say when you least expect it, expect it because they’re out there and awaiting to strike.”

The suspect escaped into the passenger seat of a white GMC SUV. Two of the store employees chased after him, with one employee falling to the ground right next to the evading vehicle and another taking pictures of the SUV.

While Allen stressed he’s grateful no one was seriously injured, he’s frustrated by the fearless and sometimes calculated nature of individuals like the one who got away a week ago.

AllGen Computers has been targeted  by thieves in the past where people got away. But there was one situation when employees were able to detain the suspect until police arrived.

“These particular people I don’t know if this is some type of challenge from their peers or what it’s related to but it’s a dangerous game they’re playing,” Allen said. “We’re tired of it and we’re going to be watching for you.”

Crime Stoppers could pay up to $5,000 for information leading to an arrest of the person wanted for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. To be eligible for a reward, tips must be submitted directly to Crime Stoppers. You can call them at 210-224-STOP (210-224-7867).
