MEDINA COUNTY, Texas — A driver was rescued from a burning and mangled car after head-on collision in Medina County on Tuesday.
First responders were called out just after 1 p.m. to a major accident on Potranco Road and FM 471N. The call was described as a head-on crash with possible entrapments.
The first emergency vehicle arrived within five minutes and found one of the cars had catatrophic damage and was on fire with one person trapped inside. Crews could only see a small portion of the person inside the car. Crews determined the person did survive the impact and the fire and took steps to begin the rescue.
Bexar County 2 Fire Department Station 124 assisted Medina County officials in the rescue. Crews meticulously removed the car piece by piece from around the driver so they could be stabilized and placed on a medical chopper. The patient was taken to the hospital.
Medina County ESD1 FIRE/EMS posted photos the mangled car to social media, saying the organization hopes the photos, while graphic, can serve as a reminder to be careful on the road and highways. The post also praised the quick efforts of the first responders in the rescue.
The organization's post said in part:
All the crews that responded to this scene performed diligently in the face of an extremely challenging incident, with a small margin of error to truly save the driver's life and we are proud of what they did on this incident as well as daily to protect the citizens of the county.
