Six killed, including children, in Georgia house fire, officials confirm

This happened at a house on Macedonia Road in Newnan Monday morning.

NEWNAN, Ga. — Six people are dead and five others injured after a house fire in Newnan Monday morning, according to officials.

Coweta County Fire crews said they were sent out to the property just before 5 a.m.

Crews worked through much of the morning to put out flames, which they said covered about 50% of the house on Macedonia Road in Newnan. A search and rescue operation was also put in place to recover the six people who were trapped inside the home.

However, fire officials said those victims died due to their injuries. The other five were transported to Grady Memorial Hospital.

Ryan McMillan, a neighbor who said he heard what sounded like calls for help came up on the home as those five people were coming out.

“The adult female had two babies in her arms, a small little girl behind her and they were completely black covered in soot and all dirty. The male had his shirt off and no shoes on and he wasn't very responsive and just seemed like he may have been in shock," added McMillan.

The Coweta County Coroner's Office said the ages of those killed are 6, 12, 13, 36, 60, and 70. Coweta County Fire Chief Robby Flanagan noted that the situation is hitting crews hard.

“Their heart goes out to their family. A lot of our folks have kids, and moms, and dads, so anytime something like this happens. It’s devastating,” said Flanagan.

Crews are also still working to determine the cause of the fire.
