SAN ANTONIO — KENS 5 obtained new video which shows the dramatic moments an off-duty Bexar County Sheriff's deputy was clinging on for dear life on the roof of a moving SUV.
On October 3, the deputy was directing traffic when he was hit outside St. Matthew's Catholic School. Investigators said behind the wheel was Adrian David Arellano.
BCSO said he is a wanted man, and is facing charges of aggravated assault against a public servant and collision involving serious bodily injury.
Sheriff Javier Salazar said he's a dangerous man.
"I consider this to be a dangerous person that needs to be in custody right now," Salazar said.
BCSO said the collision at Wurzbach Road near Vance Jackson caused the deputy to land on the roof while Arellano kept going. However, at one point Arellano was forced to stop.
BCSO said another driver who witnessed what happened got in front of him, the deputy then fell off the suspect's car. He has a broken foot and multiple head injuries.
President of the Deputy's Sheriff's Association of Bexar County, Ron Tooke, gave his reaction when he heard the news about the deputy.
"I am always worried about the officers out there especially the ones directing traffic," Tooke said.
As for Arellano, on that day, BCSO said he ran away and went through an apartment complex. Investigators said he jumped a fence took off his clothes and walked into a Motel 6 lobby. They said Arellano stripped down to a white tank top and red shorts.
Tooke talked about the efforts on tracking Arellano and has confidence in the working that is happening to track him down.
"I bet you there is not a stone being unturned right now," he said.
KENS 5 also learned that Arellano is no stranger to law enforcement. In June, our cameras showed the suspect in handcuffs. At the time, police said he was accused of breaking into a home. BCSO said Arellano is known to frequent the areas of Wurzbach I-10 and Marbach Loop 410.
