New video shows lights on radio tower where helicopter crashed, killing 4 near downtown Houston

Ronnie Cepeda said knowing his neighbor for decades has made this loss all the more difficult to process.

HOUSTON — We are getting a new look at the moment a helicopter crashed into a radio tower, killing four people near downtown Houston.

The video does appear to answer the question everyone has been debating, which is if the radio tower had lights on at the time of the crash.

KHOU 11 News also learned more about the victims, but names are being withheld until confirmation from officials.

Those who know the victims said they are devastated.

“When I heard the news, I couldn’t believe it,” Ronnie Cepeda said.

Cepeda did not provide the video but said his neighbor was flying in the helicopter near east downtown Houston Sunday night.

In the video, you can see two lights flashing on the radio tower just moments before the helicopter crashes into it around 7:51 p.m., and then everything falls to the ground.

Cepeda said he is still in shock after learning his neighbor was on board.

“I saw him the day before yesterday probably hours before they left the house, him and his son that were here,” Cepeda said.

Cepeda said knowing his neighbor for decades has made this loss all the more difficult to process.

“He was a very, very dear friend of us, part of the family. He used to gather all the family here and at his house,” Cepeda said.

Right now, the FAA and NTSB continue to help with the ongoing crash investigation. They are working a reconstruct the crash because it’s still unclear what exactly led to everything happening.
