SAN ANTONIO — Deco pizzeria’s brunch menu offers a uniquely San Antonian breakfast…on a pizza. With a menu as artistic as its decor, they restaurant’s new location in the Medical Center is quickly drawing a loyal following.

The iconic pizza joint made a name for itself in the Deco District with its first location on Fredericksburg Road. It’s a neighborhood favorite as well as a gathering place for nonprofit organization fundraisers and meetings.

At the Medical Center location on Babcock Road, staff say the menu offers the same fare that made the original location a household name. One of the most popular features is the “San Anto Pizza” which includes barbacoa, pico de gallo and avocados. Instead of traditional red pizza sauce, the pizza uses refried beans.

“The inspiration came from our neighborhood, just the idea of going down the road, picking your barbacoa and your big red, and your tortillas,” General Manager, Amelia Nanez, said.

Another popular favorite is the The Bianco Pizza, featuring chorizo, bacon, potatoes and an over-easy egg.

The restaurant also serves the classic chicken and waffles in a gourmet style.

Nanez says the brunch menu is fluid and chefs are given the freedom to create and change menu items.

“It’s the Déco Art District, our Deco Pizzeria is based of off art, creating, we want them to create their art work in the kitchen,” Nanez said.

She says meats for the barbacoa and picadillo are delivered fresh every Sunday morning for the brunch services.

“That’s why we open at 11:00 a.m. and don’t start our menu until 11:00 a.m. because we do need to make sure everything is freshly made, even our picadillo. So we do have that every morning for our chefs to make every Sunday.”

The restaurant also serves a range of brunch cocktails, including different flavors of mimosas and their famous, “Off the Burg.” It’s a creamy, blue cocktail that invokes the bright colors and themes of art deco itself.
