Houston-area family says porch pirate disguised as FedEx driver stole important package

The family said a thief disguised as a FedEx driver stole package containing to new cell phones.

HOUSTON — A young man in Southside Place said he and his family are a little shaken up after a FedEx delivery earlier this month.

“I went out and I was like no mom I don't see the package. I was like huh,” the young man said.

After scouring their front porch, this family decided to check their surveillance cameras. It showed a female FedEx delivery driver drop off a package with two new cell phones inside.

“However, about eight minutes later, there was another man that was wearing the same FedEx uniform” the young man told KHOU 11News. "He took the package and like walked away."

Confused, he called FedEx and told KHOU 11 News. The company explained there was no second driver. That’s when the family took a closer look at their video and noticed something.

“He was wearing a hat and trying to cover his face,” The young man said.

They now believe their visitor was actually a clever imposter in a costume, hiding his real job of stealing packages.

It's something we've seen before, with news reports of similar schemes in Connecticut and Oklahoma.

Closer to home, Bellaire police said several months ago, they caught a porch pirate posing as an Amazon delivery driver.

“To think some imposter can just, come up to you and act like they're here to help, when in reality they are just like robbing you. That's really just like a top-tier scary thing to think about,” the young man told KHOU 11News.

KHOU 11 reached out to FedEx about the incident. They sent a statement that reads, "The security of our customers’ shipments is a top priority, and we encourage any customer who believes a shipment has been stolen to immediately contact local law enforcement.”
