North Texas assistant principal flown to hospital after 'classroom disruption,' officials say

School officials in a statement Friday morning said Candra Rogers was injured in the incident and is improving.

CORSICANA, Texas — An assistant principal at Collins Intermediate School in Corsicana was airlifted to a hospital Thursday after getting injured during what officials are calling a "classroom disruption."

School officials in a statement Friday morning said Candra Rogers was injured in the incident and is improving. More details on her condition and injuries were not released.

According to a letter sent to parents by Principal Tiffany Boortz, there was a "disruption in a classroom" on Thursday that resulted in Rogers getting injured. The incident happened in a classroom with less than 10 students, officials said Friday, but more details about what happened were not released.

“She is improving, she's in good spirits, she's very strong,” said Corsicana ISD Communications Director Raymond Lenix. “There was a case last night or hearing last night for the student.”

The Navarro County District Attorney’s office says that hearing was a detention hearing. They said the boy is now under parental supervision with an ankle monitor adding that charges are pending, and will be determined once the investigation is complete.

“We're just going to wait and let the legal system play out and hopefully Mrs. Rogers will be OK and back at work soon,” said Lenix.

No other students or staff were in danger and the campus was placed on "Hold" status while the staff member was tended to, Boortz told parents.

"It's just it's really, really scary," Laura Brazier, a parent, said. "I would like to know. How it happened?"

“Our prayers are with Mrs. Rogers and her family, but also the family of the student, those in the classroom at the time, and the entire Collins campus, our school district, and our community,” Corsicana superintendent Stephanie Howell said. “This has been an extremely upsetting and difficult situation as you might imagine, but we take the safety not only of our students, but also of our staff very seriously. Both remain a priority for Corsicana ISD.”

Rogers joined the Corsicana district last semester, officials said. Her husband, Eugene Rogers, is in his first season as the Corsicana High School football coach.
