Dog dies after attacking owner on the north side, police say

SAN ANTONIO — A dog owner was attacked by his own dog Friday night, and the result turned deadly, according to police.

At about 10:10 p.m. Friday night, officers arrived at the 1100 block of Fulton to a man being attacked by a large dog in the front yard.

While officers were trying to get the dog off the 36-year-old victim, one of them shot their weapon, shooting the dog once.

The victim was taken across the street and was given first aid.

It was revealed that the victim was the owner of the dog. Police said the dog was found to be "beyond saving measures." The owner gave police permission to put the dog down.

It is unknown why the dog attacked their owner, who suffered multiple injuries and bites throughout his body. He was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

ACS took custody of the dead dog and will be investigating further.

This investigation is preliminary and may change as the investigation continues.
