HOUSTON — A man is asking for help to find a dog that was stolen out of his car. He said his dog is the unofficial support animal for an organization that helps at-risk kids and he said the kids won’t stop asking for her.
Rob Trevino parked along Dunlavy Street and went inside a business when he said thieves broke into several cars, including his own.
Dulce is a beautiful 3-year-old American bully, who was rescued by Trevino.
"I found Dulce under 288 near Belfort in the summer of 2022," he said.
And he was hooked.
"I am foster fail. She grew on me," he said.
But Dulce is not just an ordinary dog -- she’s an unofficial staff member at Revision Houston, an organization in the Gulfton/Sharpstown neighborhood that helps at-risk kids.
Dulce is another member of the family there.
"That calmness, that peace she offers," Trevino said.
The kids adore her.
"Helps you with things and you support them and what she does is bring a sense of kindness and warmth they might not experience from people around them," Jordan Czichos, a staff member at Revision Houston, said.
Last week, after leaving Revision, Rob stopped at a business here on Westheimer at Dunlavy. He said he left her in the car because after she leaves work she’s so tired. She was asleep in the Jeep in her bed when he said a group of men broke into his car, as well as others.
"My heart just sunk," Trevino said.
From his car, they only took Dulce. Now, Trevino is asking for help and hoping the people who have her bring her back home.
"She is special because she has touched so many lives and just accepted people and whoever they were loved on them no matter who they were," he said.
For now, her spot here on the sofa at the community center is empty as the kids anxiously await her return.
Trevino filed a police report with the Houston Police Department. They are investigating but Trevino is offering a $500 reward. Someone in the community added an additional $100 to the reward. For more information, you can call 832-413-3938.
