Domestic violence case on northeast side ends with man dead and woman in critical condition

Police say the man responsible in the domestic assault shot himself and is now dead.

SAN ANTONIO — A woman is in the hospital with severe injuries after an extreme act of domestic violence.

This happened Tuesday night near 10 p.m. at a home in the 4800 block of Castle Kent Drive near Gibbs Sprawl Road on the northeast side of town.

Police say the man who assaulted her then took his own life.

The victim's daughter told officers she found her mom hurt, lying unconscious on the kitchen floor.

When police arrived, they say they discovered a man dead from a self-inflicted gunshot.

Leading up to this, officers learned the mother and man, both said to be in their 50s, were fighting and it escalated to him assaulting her.

After the assault, officers say the man then went to a back bedroom in the house and shot himself.

The woman was taken to the hospital and at last check is in critical condition.

According to officers, the woman injuries were so extreme doctors at the hospital are having a difficult time trying to determine is if she was also shot.
