BLANCO, Texas — A driver is dead after he crashed head-on into oncoming traffic while traveling on Highway 281 north of San Antonio early Tuesday, Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) says.

Troopers responded to U.S. Highway 281 South about two miles south of Alamo Lane around 9:50 a.m. for reports of a crash involving multiple vehicles in Blanco County.

The preliminary investigation suggests a man driving a Chevrolet Camaro that was heading south on Highway 281, somehow ended up on the wrong side of the road facing oncoming traffic. He crashed into a Toyota Highlander and a Honda Accord causing multiple injuries. That driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The highway was shutdown at mile-marker 496 while officials work to investigate the crash and clear the scene.

If you are traveling in that direction you are asked to use an alternate route. Officials will update when the highway reopens on social media.

This investigation is ongoing, and no more details are available.

This is a developing story.
