SAN ANTONIO — A local doughnut shop is spreading the Halloween spirit with their most recent assortment, the ‘Spooky Box’.
Duck Donuts unveiled their latest seasonal themed box in the beginning of October on multiple social media platforms, and the crowds loved it.
The ‘Spooky Box’ includes 12 Halloween themed doughnuts that pay homage to characters like the werewolf, mummy, spider and jack-o-lantern.
Ruben Montemayor, Area Director for Duck Donuts San Antonio says the Spooky Box is their most popular box and customers wait for its annual launch all year long.
“People are always looking for a change. That’s why we’re always trying to come up with new flavors, new boxes, new seasonal items. People just want something different especially around the holidays.”
Montemayor says every doughnut in the Spooky Box is delicious, especially his favorite, the Werewolf.
“It’s got our maple icing with chopped bacon; delicious crispy chopped bacon and we do a raspberry drizzle on top.”
He says most kids prefer the Dirt N’ Worms doughnut because of the crushed Oreos and gummy worms on top.
“And no matter what age, everybody always smiles when they take that first bite of the doughnut. That’s the best part,” Montemayor said.
Duck Donuts is known to stray from the traditional rules and normal routine when it comes to doughnuts. They customize their doughnuts with whatever toppings and coatings you want, and customers can watch their creation from start to finish.
“We pride ourselves on being a fresh-made doughnut shop. What differentiates us from the rest is our doughnuts are all vanilla cake. We don’t have any yeast doughnuts but they’re all fresh made to order.”
Even after almost three years as area director Montemayor says he loves his job especially serving the people of San Antonio.
“I’ve always loved meeting new people, talking with new people. And in this line of work, you meet all walks of life.”
Duck Donuts is also offering free medium cold brew and delicious hot coffee all October long with no purchase necessary.
The Spooky Box will be available throughout the month of October.
