Early morning fire sends family scrambling out of home

Investigators believe the fire started in a washing machine located in the home's garage.

SAN ANTONIO — An early morning fire sent a family scrambling out of their home with the just the clothes on their backs.

San Antonio Fire Department responded to the 3100 block of Knight Robin near Eisenhauer Road on the northeast side of town around 12:30 a.m. Monday for reports of a fire.

When crews arrived they found all of the occupants of the home, including the family dog, waiting outside due to a fire that had started in a washing machine located in the home's garage.

SAFD quickly extinguished the fire and removed the laundry machine from the home while doing a complete sweep and inspection of the property for other damage.

Everyone inside was awake when the fire started, and all got out safely. The fire chief said this is the first time he has seen this happen.

No injuries were reported and investigators don't know what caused the washing machine to ignite.

This investigation remains ongoing.
