East-side accident overnight leaves driver dead

Investigators are working to see if he had alcohol in his system.

San Antonio — An accident on the east side overnight left one driver dead and another seriously injured.

The San Antonio Police Department said speed played a role in the deadly crash.

Around 4:30 am Saturday, police said a man driving south on South Hackberry Street ran a red light and T-boned a vehicle at the Iowa Street intersection.

The driver that was hit died at the scene.

The driver who ran the red light was transported to San Antonio Military Medical Center with several broken bones.

Investigators are working to see if he had alcohol in his system at the time of the crash. If so, he could face manslaughter charges.
