Man found dead inside burning home, firefighters say

Due to the amount of damage caused, it may take firefighters some time to determine the source.

SAN ANTONIO — Another house fire in San Antonio turned deadly early Thursday morning, after firefighters found a man inside of a burning home on the southwest side of town.

San Antonio firefighters responded to the 200 block of Briggs Avenue near Somerset Road around 2 a.m. for reports of a house fire.

The battalion chief says the home was completely engulfed in flames when crews arrived. It was so dangerous, firefighters could not make their way inside to battle the blaze.

Crews had to work defensively before they were able to contain the flames. Due to the damage, it may take firefighters some time to determine the source.

Once the fire was under control, the battalion chief says they found the man inside.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. There was another home on the property but fire crews managed to keep it safe.

The battalion chief says the only other property damaged was a nearby vehicle. A food truck parked next to the building was damaged by the fire.

Total damages are estimated to be around $60,000. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

This is a developing story.
