Electrical problem could be to blame for fire at vacant home, officials say

When crews arrived, the fire was coming out of the front window.

SAN ANTONIO — An electrical problem could be to blame for a fire at a vacant home early Sunday morning.

San Antonio firefighters responded to the 600 block of Verne Street near SW Military Drive on the south side of town just after 4 a.m. for reports of a fire at a vacant home.

Crews said there was fire coming from the front window when they arrived.

After crews extinguished the flames, they checked for any hotspots. CPS Energy was called to the scene to cut the power to the home.

No Injuries were reported and no one was found to be inside the home. It's unclear at this time if anyone might be staying or squatting in the residence.

The exact cause of the fire is under investigation, but SAFD officials are confident the fire was cause by some type of electrical issue. No word on the estimated damages caused by the blaze. But officials say the home sustained moderate damage.

This is a developing story.
