SAN ANTONIO — A family is pleading for answers after their loved one was gunned down on the south side less than a month ago.
Investigators said 24-year-old Miranda Gomez was shot and killed on Feb. 18 around 5 a.m. off the 4300 block of Roland Avenue while she and three others were driving home from an after-hours bar.
Investigators believe someone in a dark colored sedan was following them and fired off several shots at their vehicle, striking Gomez. The family said they were told she was hit in the back.
"I was in disbelief," Debra Lopez said.
Debra Lopez is Gomez’s aunt. She said the family has not been given much information from police on what may have led up or instigated the shooting. She said her sister is in a lot of pain right now.
"I can't imagine how my sister feels and for a mother to bury her own child, I don't know how to comfort her, it's hard,” Lopez said.
Lopez said police have surveillance video of the shooting from a nearby apartment. They are hoping it will help police track down the suspects.
Lopez said her niece had a big heart and was close to her mother who she was texting just hours before the shooting.
“She took care of her mom, her mom being sick,” Lopez said. “She's a good kid, a great kid."
She said the family is relying on their faith and the justice system to bring them some sort of closure.
"That way my family can move forward, and my sister can start healing, mourning her daughter,” Lopez said.
