'They were waiting for him' | Family pleading for hit-and-run suspect to come forward

A 23-year-old man was killed in the intersection of Culebra and North General McMullen Tuesday night.

SAN ANTONIO — The family of the man killed in a hit-and-run Tuesday night is holding out hope police will catch the suspect soon.

23-year-old Dylan Michael Sandoval was struck by the vehicle around 9:30 p.m. at the intersection of Culebra Road and North General McMullen Drive.

According to the police report, a witness described the vehicle as a white Ford pickup truck, but another witness had a different description. The family said investigators told them they do have a license plate number for the driver.

“Whoever it was, they just cowardly left him to die there,” Veronica Sandoval Moncada said.

Moncada is the victim’s aunt. She said the night he died, he had just left his grandparents home with the promise to return the next day. She said he prayed over them before leaving.

“They told him don’t leave because it’s raining,” Moncada said.

It would be just minutes later when Sandoval was killed. His family said they did not find out until the next day.

“My mom showed me that she had his clothes ready to come the next day,” Moncada said. “Like it was there like folded so he could come the next day, but he didn’t come the next day. They were waiting for him.”

The family is working on funeral arrangements. They plan to bury him next to his mother, who died three years ago. They added Dylan was devoted grandson and father of three young children.

“It’s really sad,” Moncada said.
