Family releases balloons to mourn father killed in fiery DFW area crash

Willie Gunn, 48, died early Monday morning, his family said. His girlfriend and her three young children were also in the car.

DALLAS — The daughter of a man killed by a suspected drunk driver on I-35W alongside his girlfriend and her three kids in Fort Worth Monday morning is calling for justice for her father.

At a balloon release organized by Willie Gunn's family Friday evening, Keyera Gunn said she had no sympathy for the 19-year-old suspect that police arrested. "At the end of the day we're going to get justice for my daddy," she said.

Fort Worth police said 19-year-old Eduardo Gonzales slammed into Gunn, his girlfriend Amber Hopewell and her kids around 1 a.m. Monday morning.

Police said Gonzales was drunk. He’s been charged with five counts of intoxication manslaughter and a DWI.

"It’s so sudden and that’s what makes it such a tragedy because we never would’ve expected this to happen," said Wilbert Gunn, Willie's older brother.

"This is just shocking to me what we’re going through right now," he said.

His family said Gunn was driving for DoorDash, trying to earn extra cash, when Gonzales hit their car.

The medical examiner's office has not yet formally identified the victims, Wilbert Gunn said because of how seriously they were burned in the wreck.

"I was a daddy’s girl," said Keyera Gunn. "I don’t know how to feel, I just want answers for my daddy -- and the kids and Amber."

A GoFundMe has been started to support one of the young victims who died in the crash.
