The family of a San Antonio man who suffers from mental health issues and autism is sounding the alarm on his disappearance.

Maverick Crawford's family last spoke with him on his 28th birthday on April 14th. His mother says they have a close relationship, and keep in contact.

“I’m very concerned. I just want to know that he is ok,” said Vernita Wheeler, Maverick Crawford's Mother.

Crawford has overcome many obstacles obtaining a bachelors degree in criminal justice from UTSA, and also has a masters degree in social work.

“He is a very intelligent man, and he knows to stay in contact with his family,” said Jackie Lee, Maverick's Aunt.

During one of his last conversations with his mom, his mental health struggles resurfaced.

“He said by the time his birthday came, April 14th that he didn’t want to be here any longer,” said Vernita Wheeler.

In September of last year, Crawford was featured in a story with Henry Ramos about his mental health.

“I had thoughts of wanting to end my life, I’ve attempted,” said Crawford.

Crawford's family says police did a welfare check of his apartment in the 200 block of Tampico and didn't find any signs of foul play, and calls to his phone go to voicemail.

“Call your mom, call your aunt, call your sister, me, anybody let us know that you are ok,” said Lee.

The family says Crawford is quiet, so if someone sees him, approach him gently and let him know his family is searching for him.

“We just want you to come home. We love you, and we want to get you some help,” said Jeffrey Wheeler, Maverick's Aunt.

If you do know the whereabouts of Maverick Crawford, your urged to contact SAPD's Missing Person's Unit at 210-207-7660.
