Woman dies after truck crashes into back of big rig, bursts into flames, police say

The driver of the 18-wheeler truck was able to disconnect his truck from the trailer when it caught fire.

SAN ANTONIO — A woman is dead in a fiery crash after crashing her truck into the back end of a big rig on the northeast side of town, police say. The truck burst into flames.

The crash shut down I-35 for more than five hours while officials worked to investigate the crash and clear the scene.

It happened around 11:11 p.m. on Monday night on I-35 North at O'Connor Road.

Officials tell us that a woman driving a silver Ford pickup truck ran into the back of the 18-wheeler, pinning her truck beneath the trailer. The truck burst into flames. Sadly, the woman did not make it out in time.

First responders say it took them over an hour to extinguish the fire because the gas fueled the flames.

To prevent additional damage to his big rig, the truck driver disconnected his trailer from the cab of the truck and he is expected to be OK.

The woman has been identified as 66-year-old Seong Hui Pluguez.
