SAN ANTONIO — A San Antonio father has been arrested after police said they found his 20-year-old disabled daughter at home alone and severely malnourished, according to an affidavit.
Edwin Garcia is now facing injury to disabled serious bodily injury charge in connection to the case.
According to the affidavit for an arrest warrant, the victim has been diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy. She’s also non-verbal and on a feeding tube.
Investigators report in the warrant the victim “is incapable of performing any of the daily activities of life without assistance.”
On February 15, investigators said Adult Protective Services got a call from a local high school where the victim is a Special Education Student, asking for a welfare check because staff was concerned her feeding tube had been clogged.
On the second visit to the apartment two days later, officers were finally able to get inside where the victim lived with her father, her only caregiver at home, police said.
According to police documents, officers found the victim alone and suffering from a black eye.
The girl was rushed to the hospital where doctors later diagnosed the victim with sepsis, gastrointestinal issues, and determined she was severely malnourished, according to an arrest affidavit.
Garcia later told Adult Protective Services his daughter got the black eye from the rats living inside the apartment, investigators reported in the warrant.
Garcia was arrested Friday and his bond is set at $75,000.
