Father found not guilty in starvation death of 4-year-old son

Cervera was accused of starving his young boy and forcing him to beg for food, three years after the 4-year-old died at a hospital.

BEXAR COUNTY, Texas — A jury has found Brandon Lee Cervera not guilty in the starvation death of his 4-year-old son Benjamin.

Cervera was accused of starving his young boy and forcing him to beg for food, three years after the 4-year-old died at a hospital.

According to documents, videos were seized from the phone belonging to Benjamin's stepmother, Miranda Casarez, that showed the child shaking, crying and begging for bread. Another video showed him being forced to eat breadcrumbs off the floor.

Earlier this year, Casarez was found guilty and sentenced to 25 years in prison.

The trial began on Monday, Sept. 23 and concluded just nine days later with the jury finding Cervera not guilty.
