Fiestas Patrias San Antonio is the annual celebration of Dieciséis de Septiembre and Hispanic Heritage Month featuring a series of festivities commemorating Mexico’s independence from Spain in 1810 and honoring San Antonio’s strong connection to Mexico.
Hispanic Heritage Month runs from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15 and is an opportunity to celebrate the contributions, accomplishments, and influences of Hispanic and Latin Americans.
The celebration includes hundreds of events going on all around San Antonio. Some of the highlights include a river parade on Sept. 14 in honor of Dieciséis de Septiembre, a salsa cookoff on Sept. 20 and a Mariachi festival on Oct. 12. It also includes other festivals, music performances, children's events and even a pinata-making demonstration. There is something for every member of the family.
