SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio fire crews battled a big house fire on the northwest side Monday morning.
Firefighters responded to a structure fire on Raritan Street near Bandera Road around 10 a.m.
The roof collapsed shortly after the firefighters arrived.
Neighbors told fire crews the occupants are usually gone for long periods of time. Fire crews did find lots of materials and items inside the home, similar to what you would see in a hoarder house.
“I was really scared… I couldn’t think at first… My instinct was to grab my dog," a resident living next to the home said.
Fire crews were limited on entering the home due to safety precautions regarding the collapse.
No one was found inside the home, officials say.
"We rarely see anyone...That's why we're not sure how it started," the neighboring resident said.
The house is believed to be a total loss due to a full roof collapse and extensive fire and water damage, fire officials say.
The cause of the fire is being looked into. This is an ongoing investigation.
