SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio fire crews responded to a fire that appeared to have possibly caused an explosion at an apartment complex on the west side Saturday afternoon, officials said.
Crews responded to a structure fire on the 2700 block of Observation Drive around 12:45 p.m.
Firefighters said the structure showed obvious signs of an explosion in the original apartment.
Resident Pierre Young told KENS 5 he heard a large "boom" coming from his daughter's room. He said he ran to the room and saw the wall was caving in.
"It was an explosion. My whole daughter's wall came in," Young said.
Young said he grabbed his kids and wife and was able to escape in time. He also said the side doors were locked so neighbors helped them get to safety.
Residents mentioned smelling gas on several occasions and previous problems with the stove.
Young said he was unsure if the apartment complex was planning to move his family to another facility.
Officials said the fire is out and no injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is being investigated.
