SAN ANTONIO — A firefighter was injured while working on putting out a structure fire on the west side.

Around 12:45 p.m., SAFD responded to a structure fire in the 5500 block of West Commerce Street.

SAFD said the building was used as a residential on the front side and had a business connected on the backside. There were reportedly a lot of vehicles under a metal roof which caused the heat to get trapped around a lot of fuel.

People in the surrounding area reportedly could hear explosions coming from inside the building, which SAFD confirmed to be propane tanks and torch welding tanks exploding due to the fire.

SAFD said some people were inside of the building at the time of the fire but were able to evacuate without any injuries. A firefighter was being evaluated for an injury but will be okay.

It took fire personnel approximately 30 to 40 minutes to put out the flames.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

KENS 5 will update this story as more information becomes available.
