SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio firefighters were battling a blaze at a commercial building on the northeast side of town Wednesday afternoon.
First responders were called out to Quality Fence & Welding located at 2:33 p.m. to the 13100 block of Wetmore Road near Thousand Oaks Drive for reports of a large fire.
When firefighters arrived, they discovered an 18-wheeler gasoline tanker truck on fire. Officials said that a truck was being filled with diesel in the rear of the building when something sparked and a propane tank near it exploded. The driver was able to escape with minor burns to his hands.
A 600 gallon underground storage tank went up in flames.
Thankfully, nobody else was injured in the blaze.
"Everything to make themselves safe, they did," said SAFD Fire Chief Charles Hood.
The fire destroyed one building and heavily damaged another. Thousands of gallons of water were used to fight the flames.
This is a developing story.
