Firefighters say wood-burning sauna started fire at northeast-side home

Three people made it out of the home safely, officials say.

SAN ANTONIO — Officials say a wood-burning stove may be to blame for igniting a fire at a home on the northeast side of town.

San Antonio Firefighters responded to the 7400 block of Castle Throne Drive near Eisenhauer Road around 1:09 a.m. Tuesday for reports of a fire.

When SAFD arrived, the overhang and attic of the home were on fire. Three people made it out safely, according to firefighters, and will be displaced at least for a night or two.

Officials believe the fire was started by a homemade wood-burning sauna that was left on. The fire caught the overhang and it got up into the attic above the living room on the back of the house.

Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire.

The damage is estimated to be around $30,000 to $40,000.

This is a developing story.
