Firefighters stay busy on New Year's Eve responding to multiple fires

One was on the northeast side of town and the other was just northwest of downtown.

SAN ANTONIO — Firefighters had a busy night responding to fires of all kinds, including trash, grass and a few homes as well.

San Antonio firefighters responded to the 4900 block of Sierra Madre, not far from El Dorado Elementary School around 12:45 a.m. Monday for reports of a home on fire.

Firefighters say nobody was home at time of this fire, which broke out in the garage, then spread through the hallway of the house.

Video from overnight shows firefighters at the scene on the northeast side working to extinguish the flames.

The garage was gutted out and the roof heavily damaged. The homeowner was notified and returned home.

Firefighters say there is about $70,000 dollars worth of damage to the home.

The cause remains under investigation.

Investigators are also looking into the cause of another house fire north of downtown.

This one happened just after midnight on Edison Drive, not far from I-10.

Firefighters say the fire broke out at the front of the house.

There were two people inside at the time but fortunately they got out safe. Fire crews tell us they will be displaced due to the damage this fire caused.

No word on the amount of damages caused by this fire.

This is a developing story.
